Game: Skyrim
Level: 19
Location: Morvunskar
Finished up at Mzulft, but the staff wasn't there ... it's in Labyrinthian. Decided to look for Sam in Morvunskar, but I don't think I'm strong enough yet, those mages have killed me 3 times in the second room alone.
Decided to head up to Winterhold to investigate a book ... it mentioned a Pale Lady, something else (forgive my memory) and the Gauldur legend. It's quite far away, though, and since Yngvild is right around the corner, I'm stopping in there for the Helm of Winterhold. Then to the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller - back to the main questline!
Yngvild is a snowy place - the walls, in some points, are composed entirely of ice, with icicles everywhere. So far I've come across only female draugrs (||||| ||) and female ghosts (||||| ). I found a journal from a man named Arondil with ... some interesting descriptions of obsessions with the young women of Dawnstar. I hope that's not who these girls are. There isn't much here in terms of kit, just a few burial urns and what little the fighters have on them. Journal II - It would seem the draugrs are female warriors, buried in Yngvild, that have been reanimated by Arondil. They were raised from the dead by him to do his bidding. Taking the journals seems to activate a quest. Journal III implies that Arondil is ... a necrophiliac as well as necromancer. He also murdered a milkmaid who came too close to Yngvild, and he discusses reanimating her as well. Gross.
Now we come upon the Yngvild Throne Room, and I think a save is in order. I have taken down Arondil and another of his female ghosts with fire - though his ice blasts did some good damage. I had to get to health potions more than once. Found a greater soul gem and some ectoplasm as well, and the helmet seems to be though the next door. In this room, a bedroom, there was a last ghost, a chest with the helm and some other fun things, and yet another unusual gem. On the table is Journal IV, which explains that the ghosts were milkmaids from Dawnstar. And then there are some ... rather distasteful descriptions of him touching the ghost girls. Ew. After this, he began kidnapping girls and turning them into mindless specters to guard him and ... do other things. So glad I killed him. I exhausted my flames on him on my way out, stopping to give him a few extra chops with my warhammer too.
Down a passage and after pulling a lever and going through a gate, I came across 3 dead women - a Nord, a Breton, and a Redguard. Women he hadn't yet made incorporeal, no doubt. Through a door, up some stairs, through another door, chest with not much in it, one more lever, through a secret passage, and back up the way I came.
After a bit of difficult navigating, I found the tower stone. I didn't activate it, but it is good to know where it is. It allows the ability to pick one expert level or lower lock per day.
I returned the Helm of Winterhold to the Jarl, who gave me a Blade of Winterhold - pretty spiffy - and let me take a Grand Staff of Repulsion, which I wont use (it's a fleeing enchantment) but will fetch a good price. I then travelled to Riften to drop off Arondil's journals, and gained a few quests along the way.
I entered the Ratway, and was immediately ambushed by two people asking who I was while simultaneously attacking - doesn't give me much time to answer, does it? This is clearly where the thieves guild resides, and I don't really want any part of that. I was just trying to drop off journals.
This seems like a fine place to stop for now. Till next time, fair readers!
